BIAD Courses Undergraduate

BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture

This course is the first stage of education in the training of a chartered landscape architect. It aims to establish an informed understanding of landscape architecture, its relationship with our natural environment, its cultural, artistic, technical and practical aspects, and their relationship to design and creativity.

This course is accredited by the Landscape Institute , and is designed for students who wish to develop a career as a designer, exploring the potential of contemporary design thinking, defining new places and environments for today's way of life.

The programme develops an understanding of three dimensional form, experimenting with landscape design as an art based medium using technology, ecology, man made materials and space.

Teaching methods include traditional drawing techniques, model making and digital design to explore the design process. This is taught in a design studio environment engaging in the language of , mood, feeling, colour, texture and form using a range of design methodologies to locate man with nature.

This course is integral to, and provides, natural progression to the Postgraduate Diploma/Ma in Landscape Architecture and students are encouraged to apply to continue their studies.

Graduates will gain traditional skills in design creativity coupled with professional responsibility and have the knowledge and judgement to resolve complex problems. The course promotes design through a continuous series of projects and contextual studies. Student choice and variety is offered through exploratory projects, negotiated study, technology electives and studio teaching methods.

Design studies are a central feature of the course and act as the very hub of student development throughout the programme using design projects and studio-based tutoring and seminars.

This course is endorsed by the Landscape Institute. For further information about the Landscape Institute and careers in Landscape Architecture please visit their website - www.iwanttobealandscapearchitect.com
